This is A MUST for your child’s library! An incredible collection of 8 of Jesus’s Parables retold by an incredible author – Nick Butterworth and depicted by an incredible illustrator – Mick Inkpen.
Scriptural Underpinnings & Positive Themes
If I had only one word to describe the retelling of these 8 Parables of Jesus, I would have to say ANOINTED. Originally published in 1994, many times I wept as I read these parables to my daughters in the 1990s. I imagine much prayer and contemplation poured into this retelling of Jesus’s words.
Nick Butterworth speaks in sweet, simple language, thinking through the back story of each parable, out loud. The application at the end of each one, cuts right to the heart issue that Jesus wishes us to know.
Although a few parables point out human failings (House on the Rock, The the Two Sons, The Rich Farmer) you never feel a sense of heavy judgement or condemnation in the text. Likewise the illustrations reflect forgiveness and love.
So simple every child will understand. So profound, mommy will be in tears while reading.
The 8 Parables are as follows:
The Lost Sheep – Luke 15:4-7
The Precious Pearl – Matthew 13:45-46
The Two Sons – Matthew 21:28-31
The House on the Rock – Matthew 7:24-27
The Ten Silver Coins – Luke 15:8-10
The Little Gate – Mark 10:25
The Good Stranger – Luke 10:30-37
The Rich Farmer – Luke 12:16-21
Nick Butterworth has an expansive, award-winning writing career, with books published in over 30 languages, the successful Percy the Park Keeper Series, Q Pootle 5 TV Series/YouTube, etc. . . and so much more.
YET these simple Biblical retellings from his earlier days, I find to be his sweetest work.
Of COURSE – I am biased!
Illustrations
Simple lines, pleasant palettes, and playful animals frame the beautiful text in these 8 tales. Mick Inkpen’s sense of humor shines through each illustration and is a perfect partner pointing to the heart meaning of each parable.
Mick Inkpen is an award winning author, illustrator and animator, creator of Kipper, Wibbly Pig and others.
Representation
The characters of each tale, all have a middle-eastern flair.
